"Color measurement of pharmaceutical powders"

Pharmaceutical powders and bulk materials are widely used to develop various types of medications, from capsules and gelcaps to tablets. They go through a compression process and are also available as soluble powders. Whether measuring codeine phosphate or hyoscine hydrobromide, the world's leading drug manufacturers rely on HunterLab's solutions to ensure the quality and consistency of raw materials and consumer products across the value chain.

The color of pharmaceutical powders such as sorbitol, microcrystalline cellulose or anhydrous dibasic calcium phosphate is often measured as an incoming goods inspection to ensure batch consistency. The preferred method for analyzing powders is reflectance measurement.

The measurement is very simple and explained compactly:

First you fill a cuvette with the sample. Carefully tap the cuvette briefly on a hard surface so that the powder settles a little and then place it on the aperture so that the powder can be measured through the glass bottom of the cuvette. (Be careful not to get any powder on the aperture!)

The color measurement is triggered at the touch of a button and the measured values are shown directly on the display.

Whatever type of powder you want to measure, with HunterLab spectrophotometers you can guarantee a visually consistent appearance and thus underline your quality standards.
